The opening reception will take place Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 from 7-11PM and will be opened to the general public with complimentary refreshments and hors d'oeuvres provided by The Gallery 4. The Gallery 4 is open Tuesday through Saturday 1- 8PM.

Jerry Garcia (August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995) is best known for his role as the lead guitarist of the legendary eclectic rock band, The Grateful Dead. As a young man Jerry found his artistic interests divided between music and the visual arts. In 1957, Jerry attended The San Francisco Art Institute to further his burgeoning interest in painting and illustration. He quickly found his calling in 1965, when he and the other future members of The Grateful Dead, under the name The Warlocks, provided the musical entertainment for the revolutionary social experiment commonly referred to as "The Acid Test." This study, conducted by The University of California, Berkley and Ken Kesey, instantly made national headlines. The rest, as we know, is all history, and in Garcia's 30 year dedication to The Grateful Dead, as well as side projects spanning the gamut of jazz, bluegrass, blues, reggae, folk, psychedelia, and pioneering the movement of improvisational rock; Jerry never stopped drawing and painting.

The Gallery 4 is pleased to share this unique portfolio of hand signed and numbered offset lithographs and artist's proofs from the vault. These items offer a specific glimpse into the depth of character of one of the most well respected musicians of our time. Also included in this exhibition is an extremely rare grouping of vintage rock concert posters (generated in the late 1960's to mid 1970's) from Bill Graham Presents and Family Dog studios. Some of these posters were produced by prolific psychedelic visual artist, Stanley Mouse and originate from his private collection. These posters serve as a visual reminder as to how Jerry Garcia and other prominent musicians of the time would come to influence the cultural outlook of a generation faced with massive political unrest and rapidly shifting social changes.

The Gallery 4 is committed to redefining the nature of a conventional gallery. We feature works from a variety of national artists and local talent. We also carry a variety of limited edition toys and clothing. Fine art should be within the reach of everyone, and at The Gallery 4 we are making this a reality.
