Born in September of 1981, Chris Savido is a Pittsburgh Pennsylvania native. As a child, Chris compulsively tried to replicate the world around him and interpret the world in his head with pencil and paint. By drawing and studying diligently on his own and in numerous classes, Chris improved and expanded on his natural abilities. By high school Chris was painting commissioned murals and producing a continuous flow of airbrush work and making his own jewelry. After high school Chris attended Syracuse University where he majored in Illustration with a heavy dose of painting, metal smithing, and photography. In May of 2003, Chris earned his BFA in Illustration, packed up his drawing board and moved to New York City where he began illustrating, designing and working as a bench jeweler.
Allegory and Archetypes represents a decade of work by painter, illustrator, and metal smith Chris Savido. This body of work is comprised of images and objects influenced by Pop Culture, Counter Culture, and Urban Culture. Occult symbolism, religious iconography, and sacred geometry are re-occurring themes and inform most if not all of the compositions. A dreamscape where Sesame Street meets Elm Street, the images are vibrant, at times horrific and open to a wide range of interpretations.
The mind is a projector, reality it’s projection.
