Chase McBryde

Chase McBryde is a graphic designer and toymaker who moved to Pittsburgh from Texas a short time ago. Chase graduated Dean's List from Texas Tech in May 2011 with a B.F.A. in Communication Design from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. His graphic design works have been featured in The Great Texas Rock Poster Contest , where he took 3rd place for Flatstock 24 at SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas in 2010. In addition to poster and typographic design, Chase also enjoys constructing and ornamenting longboards with his unique signature graphics. Currently, Chase has become part of The Urban Vinyl Toy revolution, which has exploded in the past decade. Chase has done numerous toy customization experiments utilizing ©Kidrobot Munny and Dunny vinyl, which have served as a blank canvas for Chase's imaginative figure designs.

I'm Not A Toy opens Saturday, February 4th - February 25th, 2012 at The Gallery 4 (206 S. Highland Ave., Shadyside, 412-363-5050). The opening reception will take place Saturday, February 4th, 2012 from 7-11PM and will be opened to the general public with complimentary refreshments and hors d'oeuvres provided by The Gallery 4. The Gallery 4 is open Tuesday through Saturday 1- 8PM .

With I'm Not A Toy, Chase hopes to have a hand in exposing more of the western Pennsylvania audience to urban vinyl and designer toys. Through sculptural form and some surprising modern functionality, each figure has been handcrafted by Chase to not only be a collectible but also a true piece of one-of-a-kind artwork. The gallery event will also be premiere to two of Chase's Original toy designs: H4RE D1E and Fuzr. These original figures convey Chase's uniquely contrasting taste in contemporary toy design. H4RE D1E, with his maniacal smile and X's for eyes, comes outfitted in a shirt and tie and is also equipped with two pistols. Fuzr is a cube-shaped little beastie outfitted in faux fur with a blank stare and a gaping geometric grin. Both figures are handcast and painted and in limited edition.
