The Gallery 4 is pleased to welcome back Shawn Roberts. Shawn Roberts is a painter and illustrator born and raised outside of Buffalo NY, and a graduate from The Art institute of Pittsburgh. Shawn moved from Pittsburgh to Chicago in 2004 to pursue his creative endeavors, and has made his base there for the past 10 years. Roberts returns to our city after some very successful exhibits and world travels. Roberts's work has been featured in exhibitions in Chicago, Buffalo, NY, LA and France; as well as The Gallery 4 ("Consumed", July 2011). For the past five years, Roberts has adopted a wayfaring approach to life, balancing his time between his professional life and his wanderlust.

Shawn's latest presentation is a creative reflection on his recent travels. He has dedicated this exhibition to some of the most influential people he has encountered on his journeys around the world. Roberts' vision has been characterized by realms of pop-surrealistic phantasmal animals, with themes of nature and suffering; his familiar style depicted via acrylic on wood. With his newest works though, "Migration", he has decided to depart from his usual technique, and embraces a more classic approach - graphite on paper. His love for nature is still apparent and plays a significant role in these works. Each portrait piece is delicately juxtaposed with beautifully rendered cohabitant birds and blossoming flowers; both details help unravel the story of these influential, personal figures..

Roberts, on "Migration":

"Migration is a visual documentation of the people I crossed paths with during excursions from our structured lives. We met with common interests of adventure, passion, openness, or at the very least, curiosity. And though now thousands of miles away, they still play a role in shaping the course of my life. From the moment and place that seeded these relationships, to the cultural influences and upbringings which we migrated from, I took a piece of each person with me that will continue to grow. This show documents our time together and continued growth throughout our journeys."

The Gallery 4 is committed to redefining the nature of a conventional gallery. We feature works from a variety of national artists and local talent. We also carry a variety of limited edition toys and clothing. Fine art should be within the reach of everyone, and at The Gallery 4 we are making this a reality.
