The Gallery4 is so pleased to welcome Brian Holderman & Jeremy Beightol. Brian Holderman & Jeremy Beightol are Pittsburgh-area artists specializing in subversive, mischievous, pop imagery. You may be familiar with Holderman’s unique take on the cartoon language via his prolific design works which can be seen throughout our city in the form of murals, posters, screen-printed apparel, and vibrant graphics for specialty shops, upscale markets, edgy restaurants and multiple citywide events. His fruitful commissioned works are matched equally to the myriad fine art shows and exhibits in which he's been involved, including galleries across the U.S. and beyond: Pittsburgh's Mattress Factory and Andy Warhol Museum; OH NO! Doom Gallery in Chicago; Giant Robot in San Francisco, Gallery Nucleus in L.A, and DRAFT 5 Clothing Exhibition in Kobe, Japan among others. Or you may recognize Holderman’s visual works through The Gallery 4 - Although this will be his third exhibition with our gallery (following 2011’s “Funhouse of Terror” and his ambitious custom Werewolf themed pinball machine endeavor “Silver Bullet” in 2012), this will be his first duo show. It will also be the first formal creative partnership between Brian Holderman and artistic colleague and friend, Jeremy Beightol. Beightol is a painter and illustrator with twelve years of professional experience ranging from product design and development to illustration for apparel and band posters. Beightol’s evocative, iconic imagery is rooted in his attraction to spirituality, mythology, and the occult - and where those visions intersect.

With “Stranded In the Underworld”, their first collaborative venture, Holderman & Beightol wish to synthesize their distinctive styles while also offering an outré divergence from recognizable themes. Holderman with his his unique and specific style - a transglobal mix of retro cartoon stylings, a strict attention to graphic balance and a flavorful tongue-in-cheek cleverness. And Beightol with his archetypal figurative language revolving around vivid graphic representations that would be at home in a book of cosmic spellcrafting, giving some tangible definition of supernatural or divine agency in human affairs. By evoking sometimes conflicting themes of existence, mysticism, destruction, and survival; and correlating them with their individual and specific models for conveying equilibrium and corporeality - however macabre or irreverent - Holderman & Beightol are sure to shine a light of good-natured mischief out of the abyss. So say a prayer and look over your shoulder or throw an incantation and stare it in the eyes; Either way, prepare to be STRANDED IN THE UNDERWORLD!
