The Gallery 4 is very pleased to welcome back Keith Schmiedlin. You may recall Schmiedlin’s distinctive graphic style from his first exhibition with The Gallery 4, 2014’s “On the Prowl.” Pittsburgh based artist Keith Schmiedlin is known for using bold solid colors and gestural lines to paint subject matter ranging from flower motifs and studies of animal skeletons to WW2 fighter planes and distinguished Pittsburgh icons. Schmiedlin's stylish artworks resemble candy colored stained glass windows or mosaics, and though handcrafted, have the precise lines and segmented spaces of a vector drawing.

Schmiedlin attended CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) High School and went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design at LaRoche College. With over 15 years of professional experience, Keith operates his own design business, Schmiedlin Designs, as well as continuing his work full time as an artist, with paintings in many private collections throughout the country.

With "What's Next?”, Schmiedlin presents a new study of his trademark botanical elements, skeletal remains, and other natural ephemera tinted in vivid, saturated hues. Whether depicting the serene reflection of water lilies adrift in a koi pond or a smashed in piece of decaying skeleton; The portrayals are vibrant and striking, instantly calling to mind a technicolor contrast between life and death. Along with these new observations in his familiar stylistic territory, Schmiedlin will also be exploring subtextual propaganda in contemporary media and advertising. A new collage piece from the exhibit will investigate the glorification of malicious headliners and dark and tragic current events - suggesting the implicit and *explicit* psychic reaction. Through Schmiedlin's stylistic vision, the viewer is invited to consider the delicacy of each painted fragment and visual puzzle piece that populates the canvas or other material, synthesizing the completed image - Thus, the vantage is refreshed with each revisit, and the viewer is invariably captured by What’s Next.

The Gallery 4 is committed to redefining the nature of a conventional gallery. We feature works from a variety of national artists and local talent. We also carry a variety of limited edition toys and clothing. Fine art should be within the reach of everyone, and at The Gallery 4 we are making this a reality.
