Jim Woodring, born in Los Angeles, is an artist, comic book author, and more recently a toy designer. He worked for an animation studio before self-publishing his first comic book, titled Jim. Woodring is best known for his comic series Frank, which originated as a part of Jim before becoming a series of its own. While he still composes comic books, Woodring now focuses more attention on individual pieces of art work. He uses watercolor, charcoal, pen, and India ink to compose his pieces. As a child, and perhaps to this day, Woodring suffered from hallucinations frequented by images of frogs. His art is reflective of these hallucinations and frogs have become a central theme in Woodring’s work.
